How to Process an Invoice Name Correction Request
Published September 4, 2026.
Changing a name on an invoice may be a simple spelling repair or a regulated change to the customer, entity, or tax record. Support should identify which request it has before editing anything.
Classify and verify
Confirm the order, invoice number, account authority, requested name, billing country, and whether the legal buyer or tax identifiers would change. Use only the evidence required by approved policy and keep sensitive documents in the designated system.
If the request changes the contracting party, tax treatment, or issued accounting record, route it to the authorized billing owner. Do not delete the original or silently overwrite a posted document.
Deliver the corrected record
When approved, verify the correction identifier, issue date, linked original, and customer delivery channel. Explain what changed and what did not. If processing will take time, provide a realistic checkpoint.
Review correction cases for repeated data-entry defects, unsafe document handling, tax escalations, turnaround time, and customers who must ask twice. Those signals show whether intake fields and ownership rules need repair.
