Define what the date means

Published September 9, 2026.

A promise date might mean the issue will be resolved, a specialist will reply, or the customer will receive an update. Agents should name the event precisely. A vague phrase such as soon creates different expectations for the customer and the next agent.

Check capacity before committing

Use the current queue, dependency, and escalation rules to choose a realistic checkpoint. If another team controls the outcome, promise an update you can own instead of guaranteeing their completion date. Record the source of any estimate.

Run a daily promise review

Surface commitments due soon, overdue promises, and cases with no owner. Contact the customer before a date slips when possible. Review patterns by dependency and issue type so leaders can correct scripts or staffing assumptions.

Use this control alongside queue recovery sequencing and escalation criteria.
