A return QR code failure troubleshooting guide
Published September 4, 2026.
"The code does not work" can mean the return is ineligible, the code never generated, the page failed to load, the image is unreadable, or the carrier cannot recognize it. Each state needs a different next step.
Diagnose the actual failure
Verify the order, item, return authorization, deadline, code status, carrier, and prior generation attempts. Ask what the customer sees and on which device. Repeatedly refreshing the same broken page is not a useful resolution.
If policy allows, preserve the original contact time so a technical failure does not consume the return window. Record whether the issue belongs to eligibility, generation, display, or carrier acceptance.
Provide a usable route
Offer an approved alternative such as a fresh QR code, printable label, pickup, or staffed location. Confirm that the alternative is active before closing. Do not promise reimbursement for self-arranged postage without authority.
Review failures by return provider, device, carrier, and return state. Include repeat contacts and deadlines lost during troubleshooting. These patterns help the operations owner fix the source instead of asking agents to resend the same broken artifact.
